SAKURA Scenario Database

In order to ensure the safety of autonomous driving, a scenario-based safety evaluation of traffic disturbances is being considered.
There are generally multiple parameters to describe a scenario, and since each parameter is distributed over a range rather than a single point, it is expected that there will be a large number of scenarios to evaluate. Therefore, evaluation using both an actual vehicle and a simulator is considered.

On the other hand, WP29, which harmonizes international standards for automated driving, has set out the safety principle that "an automated driving vehicle must not cause reasonably foreseeable and preventable accidents causing injury within its operating design domain."

Based on this kind of background, we have created a scenario database as a tool to clarify the range of "foreseeable" and "preventable" events and to efficiently define multiple assessment scenarios based on them. This database is created from actual traffic data obtained by measurement vehicles and fixed-point observations, and is structured so that the basis for deriving the evaluation scenarios, such as the observation date and time, observation location, road shape, observation method, and data processing management number, can be confirmed. The scenario database has been created in accordance with the Autonomous Driving Safety Assessment Framework Ver. 3.0 published by the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association(JAMA).
Of the 58 scenarios defined in the Autonomous Driving Safety Assessment Framework Ver. 3.0, the FY24 version will implement No.1, 2, 4, 5, 9, 10, 12, 13, 17, 18, 20, 21, 23, 24, 26, 27, 29, 30, 32, 33, 35, 36, 38, 39, 42 and No.52.

Tutorial

This tutorial introduces the procedure for evaluating autonomous driving through simulation using a scenario database.Using the cut-in scenario [No. 4] as an example, we will explain all the steps related to the evaluation ((1)to(6)in the diagram below).

Sample Scenario

We provide sample scenarios created by the scenario database. Please use them in your simulation software.
The sample scenarios provided are Cut-in scenario [No.4] and Cut-out scenario [No.5]. Click on a scenario in the diagram below and download scenario files (OpenSCENARIO, OpenDrive) from the screen that appears.
Please note that we are not responsible for any damages incurred as a result of using the sample scenarios.
